You are a wanderer if:
- You feel a burning need to travel to a new destination (and preferably a new country) at least once a year.
- You get restless if it’s been at least a month since you left the bounds of your city.
- “No Trespassing” signs almost kill you because you are intensely curious and want to know what’s on the other side of the sign.
- You can quite easily get lost in your imagination (or lost for real) as you wander a riverside pathway with your camera.
You are an edge-walker if:
- You feel more comfortable at the edge of the circle. Some people might think of you as a misfit, but you can’t help but follow your curiosity to the places other people don’t think to go.
- You get bored easily and you go a little stir-crazy if you have to stay in the same job for more than three years.
- Even when life is good, you are forever wondering whether there is MORE good/new/exciting/fresh stuff just around the next corner.
If these things are true of you WELCOME TO THE TRIBE! I am a wanderer too, born and bred. I am also an edge-walker, and I’m convinced that the two things go hand-in-hand.
Do you take delight in being a wanderer and edge-walker?

Have you learned to honour and celebrate the restless spirit that won’t let you sit still? Do you take pride in your inner wanderer because you know that it is part of your beauty and giftedness? Do you embrace your wandering tendencies because you know it is all part of your personal spiritual quest? Have you stopped coming up with excuses every time someone calls you “listless” or “unsettled” or “unstable”?
If not, it’s time to do that. It’s time to stand up proudly and say “I AM A WANDERER and I don’t care who knows it!” or “I am an EDGE-WALKER and I celebrate my place at the edge!”
It took me a lot of years to realize that my wandering spirit was a strength and not a flaw. Even now I occasionally lapse into those moments when I wonder if the fact that I never really fit in my suburban neighbourhood is because I’m an odd-ball and maybe there’s something wrong with me.
BUT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ME! And there is nothing wrong with you either! We are beautiful, we are strong… we are WANDERERS!

For you, my fellow wanderers (and for me), I have created a special 12 lesson e-course that will help us celebrate our wandering spirits, honour the restlessness that makes us forever reach for more in life, examine our wandering as spiritual quest, explore what our wandering says about us, and get inspired by wandering stories and advice from people who live as edge-walkers and have incorporated wandering into their livelihoods.
Here’s what you’ll get if you sign up for this e-course:
A beautiful e-book made up of all 12 lessons, photos, and interviews that you can carry with you wherever you wander.
Each lesson will contain a combination of the following:
- stories to inspire & encourage you;
- tips for big and little ways to satisfy your wandering heart;
- photos from my own wanderings;
- useful links to resources that honour wanderers;
- tips for contemplative wandering (how to make your wandering your meditation, prayer, therapy, etc.);
- tips for contemplative (and fun) photography on your wanderings;
- tips for art-making in your wandering;
- interviews with a bunch of really cool people who have integrated wandering into their lives (see list below);
- fun assignments that will help you explore and grow; and
- journal prompts to help you better understand your inner wanderer.

Here’s what one wanderer said after making her way through the course:
“Heather’s unique blend of practical wisdom, passion & creativity is reflected so eloquently here. She instinctively knows how best to inspire & encourage, capturing perfectly the deep yearning of every edge-walker & wide-eyed wanderer! The rich mix of personal story-telling (with corresponding photographs), a treasure trove of insightful interviews plus a wealth of probing questions, provides the reader with much to ponder. It is both challenging, hugely inspirational & deeply uplifting – a real treat! Thank you!” – Jo Hassan
One of the best parts of this e-course is that, in each lesson, you’ll get inspiration from a whole range of fascinating people whose wandering and wisdom will inspire and encourage you.
Here are the amazing people whose interviews you’ll get to enjoy each week:
Alison Wearing, a storyteller, musician and dancer, who wrote one of my favourite travel memoirs EVER, Honeymoon in Purdah, about her experience traveling across Iran.
Marianne Elliott, a writer, human rights advocate, and yoga teacher, who has lived and traveled in some of the most dangerous (and fascinating) parts of the world and has just finished writing a memoir about her experiences living and working in Afghanistan.
Darrah Parker, a photographer who teaches people to capture “slice of life” photographs wherever their wandering takes them.
Nora Dunn, who sold a successful financial management business to travel around the world and become a “Professional Hobo”.
Nancy Sathre-Vogel, who satisfied her love of wandering by spending the last three years cycling from Alaska to Argentina with her husband and twin teenage sons.
Jen Louden, the author of six books focused primarily on self-care, who teaches people to savor and serve, and who personally incorporates both of those things in her wandering.
Desiree Adaway, a consultant who specializes in international non-profit organizations and volunteering and who has worked and traveled all over the world.
Connie Hozvicka, an artist and art teacher who has built a business that incorporates her artist’s wandering heart into her work and what she teaches.
Barbara Winter, a life-long wanderer and author of Making a Living Without a Job (the book that helped me jump into self-employment), who’s an expert in building a small business that takes you to all the places you want to wander to.
Cath Duncan, a life coach who teaches people about location independent lifestyles and who has incorporated wandering into her healing journey after losing her daughter (and with whom I’ll be walking 100 km. in September in support of the Kidney Foundation).
Julie Daley, a coach, teacher, writer, healer who sees her wandering as part of her spiritual quest for the feminine divine.
Alessandra Cave, a bohemian photographer and writer who hosts a website for wandering women called Gypsy Girl’s Guide.
That’s a lot of great wisdom in one e-course!
Before you spend the money, though, you might be asking “But… Heather… I’m already a wanderer. Why would I need a course to teach me how to do what comes naturally?” You’re right – you don’t need me to teach you how to do something that’s already written in your DNA.
BUT… this course is not about NEED, it’s about LOVE.
It’s about treating yourself to new ideas and inspiration. It’s about accepting that part of you that is forever restless and seeking the next adventure. It’s about learning more about yourself and finding out there’s a WHOLE TRIBE of people who are as restless as you are.
Do this for your heart. Do it to find out a little more about who you are. Do it to learn to trust yourself more. Do it to explore how wandering fits into your calling. DO IT FOR LOVE!
The price for this is just $15! You get a lot of goodness for this low price.
